Bedford Applying for Another Housing Rehabilitation Grant
The City of Bedford is currently completing a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Housing Sustainability (Rehabilitation) Program that is rehabilitating five owner-occupied homes of low-to-moderate income residents.  Work on four of the five homes has been completed and work on the fifth home is underway.  The City anticipates applying for a second, similar grant to fund the rehabilitation of five to six more owner-occupied homes.

1-person $35,800   2-people $40,900  3-people  $46,000   4 people  $51,100
6-people  $59,300   7-people  $63,400  8+ people  $67,500

Bedford homeowners (not renters or landlords) who lack the funds to make repairs to their homes are asked to return competed pre-application forms to the City or to Southern Iowa Council of Governments by February 9.  The information may also be submitted online at :

Information provided on the pre-application forms will be kept strictly confidential. This information will help the City establish a need for the program and determine a target area from which full applications will be solicited. Questions on the pre-application form include the number and age of persons living in the home, household income, and the general types of repairs needed to the home.

If the City receives this grant, homes rehabilitated by the program are required to meet Iowa Quality Housing Standards. Work may include, but is not limited to: roofing, siding, painting, window and door replacement, furnace and water heater replacements, electrical and plumbing upgrades, weatherization and insulation and other work as identified as necessary and feasible with the funds available. Licensed and insured contractors, selected through a public bidding process will complete the construction work.  There is no cost to homeowners selected to participate in this program.

Bedford will be notified in the summer of 2018 if it will be receiving funding to do another housing rehabilitation program. If grant funding is received, those homeowners living in the target area who have completed a full application and meet income and other qualifications, will be contacted and advised of their status.
